Description
Charm is a Technick in Final Fantasy XII that attempts to confuse an enemy, making them attack their allies. Charm is purchased from certain Technicks shops in the original PlayStation 2 version, and is found in a treasure in the Zodiac versions. In the original version, all player characters who have the License Board can activate it. In the Zodiac versions, it is used by certain jobs and by Vossler.
The ability is based on an ability from Final Fantasy Tactics that attempted to invite enemies to join the player's party.

The license for Charm costs 30 License Points. In the original PlayStation 2 version, Charm is sold in Technicks shops for 5000 gil in Jahara, and in Rabanastre and Nalbina Fortress after defeating Judge Bergan.
In the Zodiac versions, the Technick is found in Salikawood Quietened Trace area. It always appears. It is in the area with the gate crystal.
In the Zodiac versions, the Charm license can be used by the job classes Uhlan, Machinist, Archer, and Black Mage, as well as by Vossler.

In the original version, Charm has a 50% base chance of inflicting Confuse. In the Zodiac versions, this was changed to 90% base chance, but the Technick also has a slower Charge Time. In all versions, enemies with the Safety augment are immune. Charm can target flying enemies, and does not awake sleeping targets.

Using the Confuse spell is better than the Charm Technick though it costs MP (whereas Charm is free to use) because it can be coupled with Indigo Pendant, meaning it will not miss unless the enemy is immune. Without Indigo Pendant, Charm is better as it ignores an enemy's Shell status. The two are more equal in the original version, where Charm and Confuse both have a base 50% accuracy rate, but the Confuse spell is affected by the caster's Magic Power stat and the target's Vitality, whereas Charm is not.
There are not many practical uses for either Confuse or Charm, however. Status ailments that disable enemies altogether are better than Confuse, and the player is better at inflicting damage than confused enemies. Confuse is more of a detriment to the player rather than the enemy.
