Charged Strike is a physical ability for Lightning in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. It deals damage depending on how long the command button is held for.

Obtained[]

Charged Strike has a chance of dropping from the Cyclops and Cyclops Ω enemies, with its chances of being added to the drop table requiring Lightning to knock them off their feet or launching them. The level 5 versions can be obtained from all enemies on Hard Mode; the regular Cyclops enemies after Day 5, while Cyclops Ω dropping it starting from Day 1.

The Martial Monk garb also has Charged Strike Lv. 2 as its locked ability.

Mechanics[]

Charged Strike deals physical damage to an enemy, with the attack power and effects depending on how long the command button is held for. It deals heavy physical damage and can launch a staggered target upwards when charged for a long period of time. It has an ATB cost of 10 and a strength multiplier of 0.50 at level 1. At level 5, its initial potency can be increased to 3.00. It drains 15 ATB per second and deals 100% more damage for every 0.5 seconds of charge, up to a maximum of 3200%.

Behind the scenes[]

The Martial Monk having access to Charged Strike as a locked ability is a reference to the Monk job's recurring Focus command. This is reflected in the attack's Japanese name, (ため攻撃, Tame Kōgeki?, lit. Charge Strike), with (ため, tame?) coming from the Japanese name for Focus, (ためる, Tameru?, lit. to charge).
