Chapter 5, titled Chapter 5: Shinra Manor in the Event Viewer, is the fifth chapter of Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-. The chapter comprises of Vincent Valentine's infiltration into Shinra Manor and Cait Sith's infiltration into Mako Reactor 0
The chapter contains the gameplay stage Manor of Despair, and is divided into four subchapters, with the final boss of the chapter being the Black Widows.
Story[]
Entering through the Nibelheim sewers from the abandoned mako reactor to avoid Deepground, Vincent encounters hostile Sahagin and eventually reaches the Shinra Manor. While riding an elevator up, Vincent recalls meeting Lucrecia Crescent for the first time as a Turk assigned for her protection, with Lucrecia recognizing him as Grimoire Valentine's son.
Meanwhile, Cait Sith infiltrates mako reactor 0, where he sees the kidnapped civilians being dropped into pools of mako and being dragged down by a huge arm emerging from the pool. At that moment the Tsviet Nero the Sable appears and reveals the creature as Omega, before absorbing Cait Sith into darkness.
Now in the Manor proper, Vincent discovers a hologram of Lucrecia projecting from a materia-like orb. The holographic Lucrecia explains that she came upon the description of Chaos and Omega from the The Chronicles of Yore, scriptures written by the Cetra. Omega is a Weapon with the function of taking all the souls of the planet and the lifestream itself and flying them to another planet, leaving the planet to wither and die. The hologram then explains that she left a copy of all her records for Vincent to find. Vincent then once again encounters Rosso, who says that Deepground only does what Weiss desires, and being indifferent as to why he would wish to kill the planet. She explains that Deepground were raised as killers and, once freed from their captors three years prior, they continued killing because it was all the ever knew. Chasing after Rosso, Vincent fights Black Widow robots let lose against him and is caught unawares by Rosso who tears the Protomateria from his body. Without it, Vincent turns into Chaos uncontrollably. Before Rosso can deliver a finishing blow, Yuffie Kisaragi interrupts her, fleeing with the unconscious Vincent.
In Vincent's memories, Vincent asks Hojo if Lucrecia intends to take part in the Jenova Project and use her child in their experiments. Lucrecia arrives and clarifies that she does. With Vincent unwilling to place his wants over hers and Lucrecia wanting him to object on his own behalf rather than just for her, neither makes the first move to stop the experiment. He recalls this as his sin, and believes his transformation was the result of it.
