Chapter 4, titled Chapter 4: WRO in the Event Viewer, is the fourth chapter of Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-. The chapter comprises of Vincent Valentine's at the WRO Headquarters as they come under attack by Deepground.
The chapter contains the gameplay stage Headquarters Under Siege, and is divided into four subchapters, with the final boss of the chapter being Azul.
Story[]
Vincent once more dreams of Lucrecia Crescent, of Hojo shooting him, of the resulting experiments, and of Lucrecia approaching him while in stasis. He awakens in a capsule, recovering from his exhaustion with Shalua Rui watching over him. She informs Vincent that they are in WRO headquarters, with her having carried him after he collapsed from unleashing Chaos. Shalua is astonished that Vincent carries the Chaos gene, realizing that Vincent is the product of one of Lucrecia Crescent's experiments. Vincent is shocked that Lucrecia was experimenting with Chaos, and Shalua explains that Lucrecia's research thesis, The Planet's Pulse, describes Chaos, but that her theories were so abstract that no one took them seriously. Vincent asks to see her thesis but Shalua tells him that it was never submitted to the Shinra databases. Reeve Tuesti then enters the room and inquires about Vincent's recovery. Vincent tells Reeve and Shalua of his confrontation with Rosso and her claims about Omega and the Protomateria, which Shalua recognizes from a passage of Lucrecia's thesis, which describes Chaos as "Omega's squire", calling it a "soul wrought of terra corrupt" and with a role of "purging impurity". Realizing that this is all connected to Lucrecia and her research, Shalua declares that they need to study her works more.
Just then the WRO headquarters is attacked by Deepground, with Shelke the Transparent having tracked Vincent's movements and determined his location at the WRO headquarters. As Deepground breaches the main gate and Vincent heads to reinforce the WRO troops, Shalua briefly sees Shelke in a monitor. While Vincent pursues Azul the Cerulean, he is stalked by an invisible Shelke, until the pair is stopped by Shalua who exposes Shelke and tearfully reunites with her, revealing she is her long lost sister, having disappeared 10 years prior. Shelke reveals that when she was taken away she was told she had "potential" but in the intervening decade was experimented on and turned into a shadow of her former self, with her body unable to last long without daily mako infusions. Despite this, Shelke held on to hope that she would one day be rescued, but that day never came. Resentful, Shelke prepares to strike down her remorseful sister when Reeve arrives, stopping her. Recognizing him as on of her targets, she prepares to kill him as well, but hesitates once Reeve points out that Shalua did everything to fight Shinra for those 10 years, risking her life, leading to her injuries in her struggles to find and save her sister.
Conflicted but resolute, Shelke still strikes at her sister but Reeve shoots the sprinkler system in the room, dousing it in water and causing Shelke's weapons to malfunction. Reeve quickly moves Shalua to a safe place while Vincent subdues Shelke, leaving her with Shalua while he moves on. Vincent encounters Azul, who asks him if he's aware of his destiny and demands he hand over the Protomateria. Unable to penetrate Azul's barrier, Vincent is aided by Reeve with a rocker launcher that breaks his barrier, allowing Vincent to fight him on even footing.
After defeating Azul, Vincent decides to head out to Shinra Manor in Nibelheim to find answers about Lucrecia's research, while Reeve stays behind with the aim of using Cait Sith to figure out what Deepground is after.
