Chapter 2, also known as Monster and We're Not Monsters,[note 1] is the second chapter in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. The chapter comprises the events after Zack Fair is abandoned by his mentor Angeal Hewley, who is presumed to have betrayed SOLDIER. Zack Fair travels with Tseng of the Turks to investigate Banora Village, the hometown of Angeal and Genesis Rhapsodos, and see if they have any clues as to what has become of Angeal that could explain his sudden disappearance. The boss of the chapter is Bahamut.
Story[]
Returning to the Shinra Building after his battle at Fort Tamblin, wherein Angeal left to join Genesis, Zack refuses to believe Angeal could be a turncoat. He is sent to Banora Village along with the Tseng of the Turks to investigate Genesis's disappearance. After Zack discusses the Turks with Tseng, Tseng points out how much better paid he is than Zack for the kind of dirty work they have to do for the Shinra Electric Power Company.
At the village, Zack and Tseng find several graves, including those of Genesis's foster parents. The only villager Zack can find is Gillian Hewley, Angeal's mother, who reminisces but does not know where Angeal is. At a factory at the town, Zack meets Genesis, who has been using the apple juice factory as his base of operations. Genesis quotes from LOVELESS, an epic that focuses around three men who set out on a quest to find the fabled "gift of the goddess", before making his escape.
Shinra plans to destroy the village to conceal the events from the general public. Zack races back to warn Gillian, finding her dead, with a cold, emotionless Angeal standing over her. Zack is shocked and enraged by the idea of Angeal killing his own mother, and questions him about the code of honor he claims to live by, to which he has little response. Genesis appears and summons Bahamut to fight Zack, calls himself a monster, sprouts a single black wing, and flies away. The town is bombed by Shinra aircraft, and Zack and Tseng evacuate via helicopter.
