Chapter 11, titled Chapter 11: Mako Reactor 0 in the Event Viewer, is the eleventh chapter of Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-. The chapter comprises of Vincent Valentine's fight through the last lines of defense of Deepground deep within Mako Reactor 0
The chapter contains the gameplay stage Beginnings and is divided into six subchapters, with the final boss of the chapter being Gorgonero.
Story[]
Vincent and Yuffie have taken Shelke to a mako infusion pod to allow her to recover. Yuffie and Vincent split up, with Vincent headed to fight Nero and Weiss while Yuffie sneaks into the reactor to shut it down. As Vincent prepares to leave, Shelke calls out to him a final time.
In the past, when Vincent was a Turk, he looks for Lucrecia in her lab and discovers a file on his father on her computer. Questioning her about it, Lucrecia breaks down and admits that she was the cause of his death. Reminiscing, Vincent admits he never blamed her for her father's death, but following that confrontation Lucrecia closed herself off from Vincent, choosing to enter a relationship with Hojo, which Vincent accepted as he believed her to be happy.
In the present, Shelke asks Vincent why he fights. Vincent says that he tells himself that it is to stop Deepground and save the planet, but he's unsure about this. Shelke explains that she herself is unsure, but at the very least just wants to not see the world end or for there to be more pain before falling asleep.
Vincent proceeds into Mako Reactor 0 and upon reaching the center he is attacked by a Dragonfly PT flanked by Gargoyles. Entering the center, he observes the reactor power shutting down. Yuffie reveals herself and the pair proceeds to the core, encountering Weiss' lifeless body, propped up on his throne. Nero appears and claims that he will not be dead long, as Omega will soon take his place within Weiss like Chaos does within Vincent and explains that he was given the secret to rebirth by someone else. As Omega begins to awaken, Yuffie and Vincent prepare to fight it but are absorbed by Nero's darkness. Yuffie is nearly consumed by the dark hearts that remained in the darkness but is saved by Vincent. As the pair exits, they find themselves outside of the room where Weiss' body was. Still exhausted from her ordeal, Yuffie stays out of the battle between Nero and Vincent, with Nero transporting them to a hellish dimension where he fuses with a spider-like machine, taking the form of Arachnero. After being defeated, Nero and Vincent return to the core's antechamber, with Nero slowly limping off towards Weiss.
Vincent pursues Nero and finds a revived Weiss, laughing maniacally. As Nero approaches Weiss, eager to be reunited with his brother, Weiss stabs Nero with his hands and casts him aside. Vincent shoots at Weiss as Weiss jumps towards him, deflecting all of his shots with his bare hands. Weiss then reveals that he is Hojo, having scattered his consciousness throughout the Worldwide Network, surviving despite his body having died. Hojo explains that when the network was restored his scattered data defragmented restoring his digital self. While he initially believed Lucrecia's thesis to be nonsense, when he observed Vincent transformed into Chaos while confronting Hojo during the end of the Jenova War, Hojo realized that if Chaos exists so to must Omega. However, while Vincent was able to play a host to Chaos due to Hojo's experiments, Hojo's body could not possibly host Omega in his natural form. To complement this, he injected himself with Jenova cells, but they took over his mind. However, as a safety measure, Hojo had uploaded his consciousness to the network. Still needing a powerful body to play host to Omega, he used Deepground to further his ambitions, collaborating with Nero to "revive" his brother Weiss, while secretly planning to take control of Weiss' body. Seeing that Chaos was born from the impure lifestream, Hojo reasoned that Omega must be born from an uncontaminated one, making his minions kidnap and sacrifice people that were never infected by Geostigma, or Jenova cells, to awaken Omega.
Having heard enough, Vincent interrupts Hojo, attacking him, but with Weiss' body he quickly defeats him. Weiss attempts to absorb the lifestream but is stopped by Vincent who is quickly defeated once more. Chaos again manifests from within Vincent, as Shelke comes to. Vincent sees an image of Lucrecia, pleading with him to control Chaos as that is the only way to defeat Hojo, but the image is quickly dispelled by Hojo, who reveals that it has been projected by Shelke. Hojo attempts to finish off Vincent but Vincent blocks his attack, using the Protomateria within Weiss to allow himself to manifest Chaos while in human form. Weiss attacks once more attacks but Vincent avoids all of his attacks with ease, and after a brief battle, Vincent comes out victorious.
Hojo is shocked that Omega's power lost to Vincent's and discovers that Nero survived by entering Weiss' body as Darkness the moment he was killed, tainting the pure host of Omega. Due to Nero's interference, Weiss frees himself of Hojo's control and absorbs Nero completely, with their goal of joining "him". Hojo pleads with Weiss but is consumed himself as Weiss walks toward the lifestream and disappears.
