Chapter 10, titled Chapter 10: Deepground in the Event Viewer, is the tenth chapter of Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-. The chapter comprises of Vincent Valentine's traversal through Deepground to reach Mako Reactor 0.
The chapter contains the gameplay stage Shinra's Dark Secret and is divided into five subchapters, with the final boss of the chapter being Nero the Sable.
Story[]
Vincent heads through the Deepground Outer Wall, with the bottom of Mako Reactor 0 in the distance, fighting his way through Deepground troops, SOLDIERs and monsters before finding a transportation mine cart, heading deeper into the complex. Now deeper inside, Vincent continues through the Deepground Ruins, the remains of homes and houses beneath Midgar Sector 0. As he approaches the center, Vincent is caught in Nero's darkness, but manages to escape it, hearing Shelke's voice telling him he cannot be trapped by the darkness, as part of him was born from it. Shelke herself, swallowed by Nero's darkness, still survives within protected by her Shield materia, slowly depleting her magic.
Shelke receives a vision of Lucrecia's memories, where her and Grimoire Valentine visit a grotto, where Grimoire claims Chaos is destined to awake. Some time later, in Lucrecia's lab, where Lucrecia has captured primordial Chaos in a capsule, Grimoire claims that Lucrecia is acting to rashly, while she exclaims she needs to prove those who derided her thesis wrong. Suddenly the Chaos breaks free and spikes toward Lucrecia, with Grimoire pushing her out of the way, the Chaos hitting him instead. The vision continues with Grimoire Valentine fading into the lifestream, telling Lucrecia to tell his son that he's sorry, leaving Lucrecia alone in the void. Lucrecia cries when Shelke approaches and comforts her, telling her that he just returned to the planet. The vision shifts, changing to Shelke crying in front of her mother's grave. She is comforted by young Shalua, who remarks that she has simply returned to the planet and reassures her that they will see her again. Once more the vision shifts as Shelke stands in the void, when the grown Shalua appears next to her, and asks if it is alright for her to return to the planet. Shelke tells her no, that she still has much to talk to her about but Shalua comforts her and tells her that they will see each other again. Shelke awakes in Nero's darkness, still protected by her Shield, identifying the vision not as a dream but data interference, and is surprised to feel herself cry.
Vincent soon encounters Nero, who is no longer content to let Vincent roam about unchained, determined to protect his brother Weiss, who he claims is the only person who he loves. Vincent asks Nero what he did with Shelke and Nero reveals that she is lost within him in his darkness. Vincent confronts and defeats Nero but he quickly recovers and engulfs Vincent in his darkness. While within his darkness, Vincent finds Shelke as her Shield nearly collapses, rescuing her. Nero is shocked to discover Vincent escaped his darkness and prepares to strike at him when Yuffie appears and introduces herself. Nero ignores her and returns to Weiss.
