Battle[]
Chandravarma is fought in an open cave at the end of the Fociaugh Hollow maze. There are no warp or crouch points to quickly recover HP and MP. It guards the Enhancer sword, which can be picked up after defeating the boss. A gate over the cavern leading out of the dungeon closes in the room previous to this room; the player must select "Return to entrance" via the Map screen to exit the dungeon.
Chandravarma shares its moveset with the other giant-type enemies, and like them, only uses physical attacks. Due to the enclosed space, as well as the boss's height and the lack of light, it can be difficult to avoid its attacks, especially if Chandravarma or the player are positioned near the edge of the combat zone, against the cavern walls.
Strategy[]
Chandravarma in Fociaugh Hollow Menace.
The player should have a fair amount of Potions and Hi-Potions for whenever chandravarma puts any of the party into the "Danger" state with its ranged sweeping attacks. A few Phoenix Downs or Mega Phoenixes should also be on-hand. Royal arms do good damage against Chandravarma at the expense of Noctis's health.
Noctis's Armiger is best-used as soon as it becomes available and will deal the most damage; the player may be able to activate it two or three times during the battle. It is best to position Noctis behind Chandravarma and repeatedly attack it in the back to build up Noctis's Armiger (and possibly initiate blindside links), rather than warping at it from a distance repeatedly. Gladiolus's Dawnhammer and Prompto's Piercer Techniques can be very effective.
Etymology[]
Chandravarma Kamboja is the first Kamboja king mentioned by name in the Mahābhārata. He appears to have been an ancient and renowned ruler of the Kambojas.
