The Cetus is a legendary creature in Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light used by the party to cross the ocean during the final stages of the game. The city of Liberte is built atop of the Cetus and could be controlled by the people through the panel located in Liberte's town hall, provided they had the Rusty Compass. The Cetus entered a perpetual slumber after Leviathan's minions forced Captain Drake to steal the Rusty Compass from Liberte.
During the beginning of the game the inside of the Cetus can still be entered at night when a whirlpool appears between Liberte and Liberte Port. When the party first enters the inside of the Cetus, it is simply known as ???. When the player obtains the Rusty Compass at the end of the game, they can use Cetus to go into hidden areas on the world map and travel into deeper areas of the ocean.
Story[]
Aire and Jusqua go inside the Cetus through the whirlpool to collect treasure. They find a chest on the bottom floor, but a monster appears to punish them for their greed. After the two defeat the monster guarding the treasure on the final level, Jusqua is tired of Aire and tells her to get lost. Aire opens the treasure chest at the final room and is turned into a cat, and both she and Lilibelle are launched into Liberte by the geyser.
After obtaining the Rusty Compass from Captain Drake, the party returns to Liberte and they resurrect the Cetus. The party takes the Cetus to east and encounter Leviathan. The Cetus is used by the party again at the end of the game in order to enter and exit from the Star Chamber.
