Ceetol Ja is a non-playable character in Final Fantasy XIV. She is the granddaughter of Raholl Ja. Ceetol Ja appears during the Physical Ranged DPS role quests in the Dawntrail expansion.

History[]

Before Dawntrail[]

Ceetol Ja has lived most of her life in a remote village deep in the forest south of Yok Tural. One day someone posing as a merchant carrying exotic goods from foreign lands and serving free drinks infiltrated the village and won everyone's trust. The next day he fled with the Steelhog Vessel and all the goods except for an empty bottle. Ceetol Ja and Raholl Ja were tasked with locating and recovering the treasure. They traveled to Tuliyollal, where they believed the perpetrator had boarded a ship and managed to escape. When they asked the sailors about the bottle, they discovered that it was produced in a place called Ala Mhigo. Due to his age, Raholl Ja was no longer able to make the long journey across the sea, and despite having been opposed by her grandfather, Ceetol Ja decided to continue the journey alone.[1]

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail[]

Ceetol Ja arrived in Rhalgr's Reach where she inquired about the thief. Ceetol Ja learned that the description matched the leader of a bandit gang that lurked around Virdjala, and Ceetol Ja went to the area alone. While Ceetol Ja tended to the wounds of a merchant who had been attacked, the Warrior of Light who had been sent by Raholl Ja arrived to help her. The Warrior of Light then went to help the merchant's companion who was still fighting the bandit group. When the man tried to attack, Chalteaufite, the leader of the group, used the Steelhog Vessel to create a shield that blocked any attacks. As Ceetol Ja arrived at the scene of the confrontation, Kaqool Ja, a Mamool Ja mercenary who was about to attack the Warrior of Light saw Ceetol Ja and retreated. Ceetol Ja asked Chalteaufite to return the treasure, but he refused, saying that only he would know how to harness the Vessel's power. While Chalteaufite fled, Ceetol Ja took the wounded to Rhalgr's Reach.[1]

After the merchant reported the events to the Ala Mhigan Resistance, a Resistance soldier spoke to Ceetol Ja. The soldier explained that the bandits' leader, Chalteaufite, was a member of a larger organization known as the Passage of the Unbound, which had been wreaking havoc all over Eorzea. Among their favorite targets were trade caravans traveling between Gridania and Ala Mhigo, with one such incident recently occurring near Porta Praetoria. After reporting to the Resistance commander in Porta Praetoria, they were interrupted by a merchant and his colleagues. Having heard rumors of attacks on caravans in the surrounding area, the merchant suggested acting as a decoy in a place where bandits usually struck. Arriving at the entrance to a ravine, the two merchants opted to stay behind while the Warrior of Light went ahead to investigate the crime scene. The Warrior of Light was attacked but the bandits were easily defeated. Upon returning and reporting the ambush to the two merchants, they were surprised that the brigands had been defeated and contact their leader, who soon arrived at their location with the commander of Porta Praetoria and Ceetol Ja. While the Resistance member arrested the bandits, the merchants said goodbye and continue their journey to Ala Mhigo. With the brigands now in custody and being interrogated, Ceetol Ja chose to wait in Porta Praetoria to see if any useful information could be obtained.[2]

After the interrogation, the Resistance commander decided to release one of the culprits and asked the Warrior of Light to follow him in the hope that he would return to the gang's lair. Ceetol Ja insisted on accompanying Warrior of Light. The pair followed the bandit around Ala Ghiri to a nearby lair. The bandit is met by the merchants who were at the Porta Praetoria, the leader of whom is Chalteaufite himself. While Ceetol Ja and the Warrior of Light were listening to the conversation, Kaqool Ja discovered them and confronted them, Chalteaufite used the power of the vessel on Kaqool Ja while he and the others escaped. After Chalteaufite has disappeared from sight, Kaqool Ja puts away his axe. Kaqool Ja asked Ceetol Ja to return to Tural as he didn't want to hurt a fellow Turali, and left the scene.[3]

Now knowing that Chalteaufite controls most of his henchmen through intimidation, Ceetol Ja suggested making contact with the two henchmen disguised as merchants. Once they located the two in Ala Gannha, Avenel and Pepin, the duo disguised as merchants, soon revealed the true nature of their relationship with Chalteaufite. Repentant for their actions, the two merchants offer to help convince others to leave the gang and recover the artifact, a proposal that Ceetol Ja readily accepts. Ceetol Ja contacted Kaqool Ja and presented him with a traditional incense burner of the same scent commonly used by his people, which will hopefully remind Kaqool Ja of his homeland. The mercenary revealed that his main reason for helping Chalteaufite is to earn enough money for the ferry crossing back to Tural, which his employer has told him costs an exorbitant amount. When Ceetol Ja points out that this is far from the truth, Kaqool Ja realized that he had been tricked into helping a criminal and decided to face Chalteaufite alone.[4]

Ceetol Ja received a letter from an unknown sender requesting that the Warrior of Light travel secretly to the Ala Mhigan Quarter to meet a bespectacled man. Ceetol Ja prepared a disguise so that the Warrior of Light could pass through the crowd without attracting attention. When meets a man wearing glasses, he turns out to be one of Avenel's companions who have decided to abandon Chalteaufite. Kaqool Ja appeared and told how he had failed in his attempt to confront Chalteaufite and recover the Steelhog Vessel. Kaqool Ja was no match for the Vessel's power but managed to escape with only minor injuries. Kaqool Ja told how Chalteaufite's plan was to conquer Ala Mhigo, with the palace as the most likely first target.[5]

Avenel and Pepin have escaped from Chalteaufite, and they reveal that Chalteaufite has already left to conquer the Royal Palace of Ala Mhigo. Taking advantage of the fact that Chalteaufite's weaponry couldn't get past the staircase, The Warrior of Light, Ceetol Ja, and Kaqool Ja managed to reach the Royal Palace before Chalteaufite's gang had begun their invasion. Remembering that "Cracks form in even the most powerful shields", the Warrior of Light was able to break through the artifact barrier and defeat Chalteaufite. Ceetol Ja then recovered the Steelhog Vessel and used its power to knock out Chalteaufite. After the battle, Kaqool Ja revealed that he wanted to turn himself in to the authorities to pay for his crimes. Kaqool Ja also wishes to one day apologize to the members of Ceetol Ja's village for the damage he caused by using the artifact, should he have the opportunity to visit. Ceetol Ja herself welcomes the idea, but for now, there are more immediate concerns, such as returning to Tuliyollal.[6]

Raholl Ja was thrilled with the safe return of the Vessel, but even that is overshadowed by the joy of reuniting with his granddaughter after her dangerous mission abroad. Now that the artifact has been recovered, the villagers can resume hunting in the forest without fear of being devoured by monstrous creatures.[6]
