An earnest and kind individual with a dark past as the commander of the Red Wings, the air force of Baron. On a royal mission with his best friend Kain, he starts to question the morality of the king, driving him to leave his homeland and set out on a new path.
Dark Knight description
At one time a dark knight of Baron, Cecil questions his way of life and becomes a paladin. With steel nerves fixed on the truth and the bonds with his allies as his weapons, he overcomes many trials to face his archenemy Golbez and what lies beyond.
Paladin description
Cecil is a playable character in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia who can be recruited during Chapter 2 of the main storyline as a Dark Knight and Act 2, Chapter 2 as a Paladin. Cecil's two forms are playable separately, but his transition to Paladin is permanent in the story. Both forms are mutually exclusive; since the two register as the same character, they cannot exist in the same local party, but can replace any other character as friend support.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
As a Dark Knight, Cecil is clad in black armor with indigo and gold linings, completed with a spiked helmet. As a Paladin, his physical appearance is revealed, having fair skin and white hair with beads. He wears white armor with blue linings and a flowing blue and purple cape.
His alternate costume as Dark Knight, Knight of the Twin Moons, is based on a combination of his original pixel art from Final Fantasy IV and his super-deformed (SD) render used in remake manuals from the PlayStation port onward.
His alternate costume as a Paladin, Paladin Reimagined, depicts him in the opening FMV of Final Fantasy IV 3D remake. Cecil's hair is straight combed, whereas his hair has no beads, his armor is whiter, has more silver accents, and a brown and blue cape. His shoulder spikes point upwards.
Personality[]
Cecil is modest and often self-doubting. When he first arrives, he does not remember Mount Ordeals and is reluctant to join the party given that his powers are rooted in darkness. When he learns of the gap in his memories he is unsure if he wants to recover them, reasoning that he may have wished to forget them due to regret. Cecil is especially conflicted about Golbez; although he desires a relationship with his brother, he finds it difficult to forgive the atrocities Golbez committed. However, his chivalrous instincts lead him to protect strangers, causing him to join the party despite his initial refusal. He is kind and supportive towards his friends and though indecisive about how to relate to Golbez, he flatly refuses all of Golbez's attempts to die at Cecil's hands.
Story[]
Chapter 2: Ruins of Deserta[]
Summoned into the conflict by Materia, this loyal dark knight is recruited by Mog at the Ruins of Deserta. He falls through one of the Torsions and is met by Y'shtola and Sazh, who are alarmed by his armored appearance. He apparently fell through the portal early in the events of Final Fantasy IV, describing himself as a knight of Baron. Although Mog and the Warrior of Light sense the light in him and ask him to join them, Cecil demurs. He says that he has been a dark knight for too long to be of use to them. However, when monsters attack the party, Cecil comes to their aid, his self-doubt overcome by the need to protect them. Mog insists again that he should join them, and the Warrior points out that there is no darkness without there being light also. Encouraged by their words, Cecil contemplates a day when his sword might bear the light and joins the party.
Chapters 3-4[]
In Chapter 3, the party is forced to fight Edge, being mistaken for the Manikins. Although Edge and Cecil have not yet met in their world, they recognize the names of their respective kingdoms. When the party encounters Yang in Chapter 4, however, Cecil tries to greet him as a friend. They are forced to battle due to Yang's mind-control by Kefka. After the battle, Cecil assures Yda that despite their manner of meeting, Yang is a friend who can be trusted.
Lost Chapter: Balamb Whiplash[]
Cecil encounters a disoriented Quistis shortly after she arrives in the World of Light as he scouts a lava field near the Capta Est Tower Laguna, Zidane, and Y’shtola. It becomes clear that Quistis knows Laguna, and so they prompt him for an introduction. However, Laguna – who was taken into the World of Light from a time before he meets Quistis in Esthar – does not remember her. Nevertheless, the group deems Quistis as an ally when a behemoth arrives to challenge them in battle. Quistis later decides to join the Cecil and the others in their journey.
Later chapters[]
As the story progresses, Cecil becomes more skeptical of Mog, noting that the moogle is evasive. When Krile innocently mentions that she can understand moogles, Mog panics and hurries away, and Cecil notes that he's acting like there's something he doesn't want the others to know.
