The Cavalry, also known as the Wide-Area Response Brigade, is a division of the Guardian Corps under the command of Cid Raines in Final Fantasy XIII. Unlike the other divisions of Guardian Corps, the Cavalry isn't stationed in any one location, but patrols the skies of Cocoon on their airship, the Lindblum, usually working to dispose of the monsters roaming the uninhabited areas of the outer rim of Cocoon.

Story

Template:Spoilers The Cavalry is a rebel group, loyal to the Sanctum only on the surface. The Cavalry's true intention is to overthrow the fal'Cie rule by toppling the Sanctum and to give Cocoon back to the people. The Cavalry is led by Cid Raines, with Rygdea as his right-hand man. However, unbeknownst to the rest of the Cavalry, the fal'Cie Barthandelus makes Raines into a l'Cie and gives him a Focus to keep the recently surfaced group of Pulse l'Cie out of the harm's way.

Unknowing that they are now following orders from Barthandelus, fal'Cie who wants to destroy Cocoon, the Cavalry saves Oerba Yun Fang from being captured by PSICOM, and convince her that they are on the same side: against the Sanctum. Fang agrees to help the Cavalry track down the other Pulse l'Cie's, as she is longing to be reunited with her partner Oerba Dia Vanille. With Fang's help the Cavalry captures Snow Villiers on Lake Bresha, and later, now helped by both Fang and Snow, the Cavalry also saves Lightning and Hope Estheim at Palumpolum and hide away Hope's father Bartholomew Estheim in a safe place. The Cavalry then proceeds to help Lightning's group in saving Sazh Katzroy and Vanille, the other two l'Cie that have been captured by PSICOM, by sending them onboard the airship Palamecia.

Realising that if he keeps on following Barthandelus's orders the entire world of Cocoon will be destroyed, Cid Raines abandons his position as the head of Cavalry, and proceeds to follow his own plan. His plan fails, however, and he ends up being appointed as a puppet Primarch for the Sanctum, Barthandelus's plan to drive the Cavalry into rage over Raines's supposed betrayal. The plan works and the Cavalry, now led by Rygdea, make their way to Eden where they manage to murder Raines, and then make their way to Edenhall, their plan to destroy Orphan, an act which they believe will free Cocoon from the fal'Cie rule. Having been lured to Orphan's Cradle Barthandelus then proceeds to turn the entire Cavalry into Cie'th, marking the end of the division.

Spoilers end here.
