Template:FFIX Enemies The Catoblepas is a beast enemy from Final Fantasy IX, and can be found as a regular enemy on the Forgotten Continent in the Seaways Canyon. It is highly recommended to equip the Jelly ability to prevent Petrify, as it can inflict it through the use of Devil's Bell, as well as to have either Earth-resistant abilities or Auto-Float to avoid its Earthquake attack. This will leave it with only is powerful Heave attack and Thundara spell. Having Protect cast on everyone helps reduce the amount of damage it can do with its powerful physical attacks. To defeat the Catoblepas easily, one can use skills that inflict Instant Death, Heat, or Freeze.
The Catoblepas encountered in Treno has the same stats, but the player wins 15,000 gil after defeating it.
