Software platforms

This category lists the software platforms used by the Final Fantasy franchise. With some exceptions, a software platform is independent of the hardware on which it runs. The creator of the platform maintains control over it, but licenses its use to hardware manufacturers, who are free to design their devices as desired so long as the common elements required by the platform are present.
