When you want to breed Chocobos...
Description
Carob Nut is an item in Final Fantasy VII that is used for breeding Chocobos. It is required to breed for a black, blue, and green Chocobo.
Obtained[]
Buy | Wonder Square (500 GP) |
---|---|
Drop | Vlakorados |
Steal | Vlakorados |
It is recommended to steal from the Vlakorados, as killing it does not guarantee a Carob Nut will drop even if the player has not stolen a Carob Nut from it. Vlakorados appears outside Bone Village on the world map and has a lot of HP for a random encounter.
Use[]
The only nuts worth using are Carob and Zeio Nuts: the Carob Nut is used to breed the first blue and green Chocobos, and Zeio Nuts are the best nuts when it comes to stats. However, the Carob Nut is also the only nut that will never produce a gold Chocobo offspring; even when breeding two gold Chocobos with a Carob Nut, the resulting offspring will never be golden.
Choco Billy at the farm will make note of each caught Chocobo's "grade" when they are moved from the pen to the stables.
- Two "great" yellow Chocobos mated with a Carob Nut: at least 4 race wins between the parents will guarantee a green or blue Chocobo.
- One green and one blue chocobo with a Carob Nut: at least 9 race wins between the parents will guarantee a black Chocobo.
- One "great" yellow Chocobo and one "wonderful" yellow Chocobo with a Carob Nut: has a 25% chance of giving a green or blue Chocobo with higher stats than just mating two "great" yellow Chocobos, but this is unnecessary, as a gold Chocobo will be able to easily outrace every Chocobo at S rank (except for Teioh whose stats are always higher than the player's Chocobo's).
