The Cargo Ship is an unrevisitable field map in Final Fantasy VII visited when the party boards Shinra's Cargo Ship in "Dangerous Voyage". Cloud can briefly explore the ship and talk to other party members before fighting a boss battle and arriving at Costa del Sol. A few items can be found on board the ship, as well as a shop.

Cargo Room[]

Cargo ship2

Cargo Room.

The first room that Cloud arrives in "Dangerous Voyage", the Cargo Room contains a number of non-player characters, mostly sailors and soldiers. One of the soldiers is Aeris in disguise, who must be talked to to continue the quest after talking to three other party members. If she has been recruited, Yuffie is disguised as a sailor near the boxes.

An All Materia is located in a treasure chest near the boxes. If Yuffie is recruited, she blocks the path to the treasure. The player can give her a Tranquilizer to increase her date mechanics score. The All Materia can still be obtained just before going to the boss battle.

Once Sephiroth takes over the ship most people onboard are considered dead, and random encounters initiate. One of the victims close to the door speaks "That thing is not a human". This dialogue can be seen only once.

Engine Room[]

Cargo ship3

Engine Room.

The Engine Room is visited briefly when meeting Sephiroth and subsequently fighting Jenova∙BIRTH. Random encounters also trigger, and taking the stairs up through the railing at the top leads to a treasure chest with Wind Slash, weapon for Yuffie. Stealing from the Marines here can acquire a new armor piece for the party: Shinra Beta.

After the boss battle, the player can pick up the Ifrit Materia from the floor. If the player leaves the room without picking it up, the Materia will be missed forever.

Deck[]

At the deck on top of the ship on first visit, Tifa can be spoken to disguised as a soldier on top of the platform, while Red XIII is found on the lefthand side with a soldier disguise, struggling to maintain balance. Two sailors are also found here, with the one on the top selling items. The soldier to the far left blocks the way until Aeris is spoken to and she mentions she has not seen Barret. After triggering this dialogue, the soldier blocking the left path has moved and the player can access the Cabin area.

There is a sailor on the deck who acts as an "inn" restoring the party's health fully, and as a shop.

Cabin[]

Cabin.

The area outside the ship's cabin is visited briefly when talking to Barret to proceed the quest. Barret can be talked to after first talking to at least three other characters, and then talking to Aeris first.

Before Barret can be talked to, the Cabin is blocked off by a Shinra soldier in front of the entrance.

Quests[]

Main scenario[]

The Cargo Ship is briefly visited for the quest "Dangerous Voyage". Cloud must first talk to at least three party members, before speaking to Aeris who mentions she has not seen Barret. The player can then find Barret outside the cabin, after which Sephiroth infiltrates the ship. A few enemies are fought thereafter in random battles, followed by a boss battle against Jenova∙BIRTH. After this, the party arrives in Costa del Sol to continue the quest.

Date mechanics[]

Final Fantasy VII has a hidden affection value that determines whom Cloud will go on a date with in Gold Saucer later. The value is determined by the dialogue and party member choices made prior to the date.

When Yuffie asks for Tranquilizers:

  • "Here, use this" (+4 Yuffie)
    • "Nope" (-2 Yuffie)

Aeris asks to go on an airship:

  • "I'll take you someday" (+2 Aeris)
  • "I dunno..." (-2 Aeris)

Tifa asks about the war:

  • "Yeah..." (+2 Tifa)
  • "I don't know" (-2 Tifa)
