The rays of its ruby light heal all they touch.
Description
Carbuncle is the Rank II Healing Ranged Esper in Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.
Obtained[]
Carbuncle can be bought from the Ring of Pacts for 2 Auracite.
Gameplay[]
Summoning Carbuncle costs 16 Affinity.
Carbuncle's normal ability, Cure, heals a single target, and its special ability, Ruby Balm, restores a large amount of HP to all allies in range, similar to Curaga. The green Carbuncles are ally Yarhi, while the purple ones are enemy Yarhi.
Carbuncle is the only Yarhi capable of healing more then one unit at a time, making it very useful in situations that require dedicated healing to survive, such as against an enemy onslaught. Unfortunately, this also makes it one of most frustrating enemies to encounter on the battlefield, and it should be eliminated quickly if summoned by the opposition.
Carbuncle is also notable for having the second highest Magick stat (after Shiva) of all the Espers, making its healing abilities especially potent when cast simultaneously on a group. It is considered superior to the Rank I Healing Esper White Hare due to having a stronger normal Cure, the ability to heal more than one target, and better overall stats for survivability, being able to either supplement or replace Penelo's healing effectively during stressful missions, provided it is well defended.
Unfortunately, since it lacks immunities to any debuff, it is necessary to keep it out of reach from harmful status ailments like Silence or Disable.

Etymology[]
Carbuncle was a mythical creature reportedly sighted in the Americas by Spanish conquistadors. It is described as a small creature, either a bird or a mammal, that has a gem in its forehead crystallized from the brain of a dead dragon. According to myth, it is good luck to catch a carbuncle. A carbuncle is also an archaic name given to any red cabochon cut gemstone. The name applied particularly to red garnet.
