Captain (キャプテン, Kyaputen?), also known as General or Black Shield Captain, is a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series.

Captain is an enemy fought at various areas around the world, starting at Fynn and Dreadnought. They are powerful foes for when they are first encountered, having high stats across the board, but if defeated, can drop valuable loot such as the Flame Bow, Golden Armor, Toad Tome, and Curse Tome.

Final Fantasy IV[]

The Captain is an enemy fought at Fabul Castle alongside Baron Soldiers. If they are not defeated before the soldiers, they will flee from the battle. The Captain does not attack at all.

In the 3D versions, the same strategy applies to gain more XP, defeat the Captain's first before they flee.

Captain and chief officer are overlapping terms, formal or informal, for the commander of a military unit, the commander of a ship, airplane, spacecraft, or other vessel, or the commander of a port, fire department or police department, election precinct, etc. Captain is a military rank in armies, navies, coast guards, etc., typically at the level of an officer commanding a company of infantry, a ship, or a battery of artillery, or similar distinct unit.
