An unnamed canine Angeal copy is a creature in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- that appears in the Sector 5 slums church in chapter 7 and appears to settle there thereafter. It is a copy of Angeal Hewley that takes on the appearance of a winged canine, wolf or dog. Though not stated outright in the game, the unnamed copy seems to represent Angeal Hewley's will.
History[]
The winged copy protects Aerith.
After Zack Fair returned to Midgar from Junon in chapter 7, he visited his girlfriend, Aerith Gainsborough, in the Sector 5 slums church. A Shinra Electric Power Company mech went haywire due to Genesis and Hollander's meddling, but Aerith was unharmed as a winged beast had been protecting her.
Aerith could tell the beast wanted to do no harm despite its appearance as a monster. Zack recognized it as a copy of his perished friend and mentor, Angeal Hewley, who had gained the power to pass on his genetic material to others due to being an experiment from Shinra's Project G. Angeal mainly ever imbued monsters, but the canine copy appears unique and unlike any other Angeal copy Zack had encountered thus far: for one, the unnamed copy did not behave like a monster and appeared to understand Zack and Aerith's instruction. Zack noted the copy was degrading.[1]
The copy perishes.
The copy stayed at the church rafters, continuing to protect Aerith who came to the church frequently to tend to her flower bed. After Zack went on a mission to Nibelheim and disappeared for years, Aerith was unable to reach him and doubted her letters would ever get to him. As a final message, she gave a letter to the canine copy who had stayed around her all the years Zack was missing, [2] and it flew away, eventually tracking Zack down to the ruins of Banora where it protected Lazard Deusericus and a catatonic Cloud Strife from attack by Shinra's forces. It perished in the effort and Zack found the letter it had been carrying, only then realizing how long his absence had been.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
The copy has silver-colored armored body with gold-colored accents. It is around the size of a wolf, and has two white angelic wings, one much smaller than the other, in recognition of Angeal who also sported a single white wing. The wing enables the copy to fly. Though Zack observes that the copy suffers from degradation, it is not apparent on its character model. Passerby sightings suggest Angeal's visage appears as a pattern on the creature's hide.[2]
Personality[]
The copy seeks to protect those close to Zack: Aerith and Cloud. It is never stated outright where the beast originates, but at one point, Zack wonders if Genesis is controlling his copies from within the lifestream, suggesting that a person with Jenova's abilities could still affect their progeny from the afterlife. Genesis was revealed to be alive at the end of chapter 6, but the unnamed Angeal copy could be seen as an extension of Angeal in this way. Angeal was known to have doted on dogs, which is why he referred to Zack as a "puppy"; it would be fitting his last surviving copy would take the form of a winged canine.[3][4][5][1]
