Cahciua [kɑːhˈkiː.wə] is a Shetona character introduced in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. She is Erenville's mother, who lived with him at their home in Yyasulani in Xak Tural. She was also Erenville's original teacher in the sciences.
History[]
Before Final Fantasy XIV[]
Cahciua was one of Gulool Ja Ja's companions. Eighty years ago, their party united the disparate races of Tural, defeated Valigarmanda, and established the nation of Tuliyollal.
After she taught Erenville everything, she encouraged him find his path and discover the golden city. Despite his efforts, he never did, and Erenville sailed to Sharlayan and became a gleaner. However, Cahciua never felt Erenville was a failure.
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail[]
Cahciua was at home in Yyasulani when the Kingdom of Alexandria used its technology of interdimensional fusion to fuse its piece of the unlost world to the Source directly at Yyasulani. When the Warrior of Light, Wuk Lamat, and Erenville infiltrated the dome that had enveloped Yyasulani, Erenville found his family home in ruins, and every other building in Yyasulani in an advanced state of dilapidation. Sphene, the Queen of Reason of Alexandria, initially greeted the party with friendliness, saying she was at odds with Zoraal Ja, the King of Resolve of Alexandria. Sphene eventually revealed the location of a hideout for Alexandria's resistance, where they found a machine body being remotely controlled by Cahciua.
Cahciua refused to reveal her true whereabouts, only claiming she was safe. With her assistance, the heroes learned about Alexandria, their use of soul cells and their intent on defeating Zoraal Ja. When Zoraal Ja was defeated, Sphene retreated to the Living Memory and sealed the gateway in Everkeep, making Cahciua lose control of her machine body, making the heroes realize the Cahciua they had been interacting with is an Endless.
The heroes eventually met the Endless Cahciua in Living Memory, where she requested them to shut the entire location down. She claimed she remained there to learn how the Endless could be put to rest. Due to not being actually alive, she alone was incapable of shutting down the terminals keeping the Endless existing; only the living could deactivate the terminals. She directed the heroes to each terminal, leaving the Aero terminal last, as it was the one maintaining her. The heroes refused to deactivate the terminals straight away, instead wanting to learn about the Endless first. Cahciua allowed this.
After shutting down the Hydro, Terra, and Pyro terminals, Cahciua directed the heroes to the Aero terminal. Before shutting it down, she wanted one last scientific expedition with Erenville to have closure. Erenville was against this, but Cahciua told him that the only reason she stuck within Living Memory was to ensure that Living Memory was undone so that her and the other Endless would no longer have to continue a hollow existence. Erenville reluctantly accepted, and together with the Warrior, the two Shetona made new discoveries around the Aero zone. One particular discovery was a creature that neither Erenville nor Cahciua could ascertain if it was a plant or an animal. The Warrior recognized the creature was identical to echevore, a creature native to the faerie kingdom Il Mheg in the First, stunning Cahciua.
After having her final moment with her son, Cahciua directed the heroes to the Aero terminal, with Erenville shutting it down personally. Cahciua gave her son one last smile, content with disappearing, and being proud of the man Erenville had become. To honor his mother's memory, Erenville decided to give up being a gleaner and fulfill Cahciua's unfulfilled dream of exploring the world in the name of discovery.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
Cahciua is a dark-skinned Shetona, with straight leporine ears. Her hair is blond that is tied to the left side of her head, while the right side has braids close to the head.
Personality[]
An explorer and seeker to the fullest, one of Cahciua's greatest joys is simply going out into the world and seeing every unknown imaginable, from legendary beasts to unseen ruins or any known myths. As Cahciua defined herself, she is "insufferably inquisitive", as in she is never content to stay in one place and be content with not exploring. Even as an Endless, Cahciua couldn't find contentment in staying within Living Memory, leading her to find a way to assume control over a drone to allow her to see the outside world. Wuk Lamat would consider her a true rebel as a result. Indeed, Cahcuia is shown to have a sense of boundless energy and eagerness.
Notably, Cahciua is also shown to be a loving mother to her son, Erenville or Elene'shpya as she named him, gushing over him when she reunited with him in her drone form in Heritage Found, even giving him the embarrassing nickname of "fussy little bun bun". However, despite her happiness in learning his accomplishments and the utter love she has for him, Cahciua nonetheless possess a strained relationship with her son as Erenville holds a measure of resentment for his mother constantly leaving him behind for her explorations. Even when he was just a child, Erenville would beg his mother to take him along with on her explorations but she would always refuse. In his mind, Cahciua always makes the decisions without anyone else's input before ultimately leaving. It was only after fully reuniting and explaining herself in Living Memory, with her affirming that her son will always be her happiness and grandest pride, did Erenville make peace with his mother.
Despite being an explorer, Cahciua has shown an aptitude for leadership, as she was one of Gulool Ja Ja's companions in the founding of Tuliloyal and became a leader of the Alexandrian resistance group Oblivion, so as to discern the true agenda of the mysterious Preservation group and later resist Zoraal Ja's tyranny. Likewise, she was the heroes' main guide in Living Memory, from understanding the nature of the Endless to aiding them in subduing Sphene. In addition, Cahciua was often reputed to be the best archer in her home village, a skill she applied in Gulool Ja Ja's adventures.
