Cactuar is an esper added to the Game Boy Advance and following versions of Final Fantasy VI. It is based on the Guardian Force of the same name from Final Fantasy VIII, being a seemingly regular cactuar that becomes a summon after a giant version of a cactuar is defeated as an optional boss.
Profile
The esper is identical to a regular cactuar fought as enemies. They are small cacti that move bipedal and have stiff arms and legs, and three holes in faces, representing two eyes and an oblong mouth. They have three needles on their heads.
Obtained
Where Gigantuar is fought.
Gigantuar can be fought in the Advance and following versions after the player defeats ten Cactuars in the desert near Maranda. If it is defeated, the Cactuar magicite becomes available.
Battle
1000 Needles (GBA).
When summoned for 50 MP, Cactuar randomly uses 1000 Needles on all enemies that does 1,000 damage, or an attack called 10,000 Needles? that does 9,999 damage.

Cactuar's magicite grants +2 Speed at level up.

Etymology
Sabotender (サボテンダー, Sabotendā?) is derived from mixing the Japanese word for cactus (サボテン, saboten?) and the English word "pretender" (プリテンダー, puritendā?).
The name "Cactuar" may be a portmanteau of "cactus" and "liar".
