Cackling Court Mage Kefka was an event in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. This event initially ran from October 30 to December 4, 2024, and was a collaboration with Final Fantasy VI.

Synopsis[]

Occasionally, the lifestream gains the power to bridge the space between dimensions, carrying the memories and inhabitants of the planes that become linked by it.

Though he has lost the Battle for the Frozen Esper, which thus far has cost many lives in the blinding blizzards of Narshe, Kefka squeals with delight when he notices a portal before him, salivating at the prospect of as-yet-untapped power. Our heroes have once more been dragged through an interdimensional warp, again in unfamiliar clothing. Most collapse from the brutal cold and are rescued by an agent of the Returners, who rushes them back to base camp.

As the party comes around and yet struggles to find out where they are and exactly what they stumbled into, they are almost immediately drawn into battle with Kefka and his latest Magitek mischief. They win handily, and make for an outpost where Sephiroth and Angeal are waiting, and planning strategy as much as they are greeting their newfound allies. The esper Ramuh, as it turns out, has sent them all to aid the Returner troops in protecting his frozen kinsman.

Kefka sends multiple waves of machines after the party, which splits up to cut off the Imperial troops' path to the esper. They are successful time after time, until Kefka sends two final waves of authentic Magitek Armor, which are also dispatched. At the site of the frozen esper, Kefka believes he has at last claimed victory, but soon, it emits a blinding light that repels him.

Their mission complete, the portal to return home opens for the party. The Returners rush to say their farewells, though they are still looking to Locke for inspiration and cannot find him. Cloud challenges the troops to find that inspiration within themselves before using the portal and following his comrades.

Event rewards[]

In the vein of a Critical Threat event, players challenged the Handy Magitek Armor (an Airbuster variant) and Kefka himself to receive Flashy Waistcloths, White Feather Ornaments, and Blue Feather Ornaments for use in the exchanges, as well as elemental Magicite for use with materia synthesis. Featured gear included Cyan's Blade for Angeal and Kefka's Collar for Red XIII, with Cyan's Attire for Angeal being available via panel bingo missions. Two sets of Guild stickers of the FFVI cast in pixel art could also be obtained with bingo completion.

Featured draws[]

As with previous collabs, all Stamp Card draws were rolled out in volumes. Volume 1 included Terra's Rod and Garb for Aerith, expanding to include Edgar's Coiled Blade and Edgar's Attire for Sephiroth. Volume 3 added Locke's Outfit and Sword for Cloud. The final volume included Sabin's Style and Claws for Tifa. The campaign also offered chances to obtain Aerith's Princess Guard Ultimate Weapon.
