Burst was originally a lightning-elemental Black Mage spell in the original 1.0 version of the game, being obtained by completing the Black Mage quest line. It had a very high cooldown timer, but dealt high damage that can be increased by using it in a combo after Thundara, making it deal more damage based on the user's current HP. Black Mages usually used it after depleting their MP and using conversion to maximize damage.
