Brutal is an accessory in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. One of the most important accessories in the game, it provides Zack with Break Damage Limit, raising his maximum damage up to 99,999. As such, it is crucial to allow the player to get through some of the later missions until it is outclassed by later accessories, such as the Genji Glove and the Divine Slayer.

Obtained

Brutal is obtained as a reward for beating "M7-4-6: Breakthrough", which is unlocked by beating missions from the "M7: Seeking Priceless Items" series. The mission ends with a battle against a Wyerd; to fight this enemy, Iron Fist (or a similar VIT-ignoring materia) is needed, and can be obtained by fusing Goblin Punch with a materia such as Dash.

Use

With the damage limit broken, Zack can consistently deal 99,999 damage with Costly Punch and Graviga (to most enemies). This is crucial to beating enemies in later missions, particularly the "M9: Great Cavern of Wonders" series that grants access to stronger items. It also allows other abilities, including normal attacks and magic spells to deal well over 9,999 damage with Zack's stats, and abilities such as Quake can become more effective.

Brutal is outclassed by the Genji Glove, which also breaks the damage limit while providing the Critical status permanently. The player should use Brutal to fight their way through missions until they can obtain Genji Glove to replace it. However, breaking the damage limit is much more important than the Critical status, meaning that this accessory is a lower priority to obtain than others.

The Divine Slayer is considered Brutal's "true" successor, allowing for limits on HP, MP, AP, and the damage limit to be broken, but attaining it requires defeating the superboss Minerva and beating the Great Cavern of Wonders, rendering it somewhat redundant for already beating the hardest missions in the game. The Divine Slayer is nevertheless the direct upgrade for Brutal, allowing for a single accessory to break all limits and without the challenge of being forced to specialize in a limited choice of parameter to break without filling the entire accessory allotment.
