Description
Brumal Form is an ability for Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth , and is one of her two default abilities along with Art of War. It is an evasion maneuver that causes Yuffie to disappear in a puff of smoke and side step several meters, leaving behind a moogle image as she does.
Brumal Form can be used while airborne. If Yuffie successfully dodges an attack, she regains half of an ATB segment, making the actual cost of using it small, and allows it to be used consecutively, such as against enemy attacks that have multiple phases/projectiles.
Use[]
Brumal Form requires a full ATB gauge to use, but will only consume partial ATB. The ability has a fairly generous window to using it; it needs to be pulled off right before the enemy's attack hits, but is not as precise as perfect guard. Against enemies that telegraph their attacks, players can reliably avoid powerful projectiles or melee attacks before they hit Yuffie by using Brumal Form, and regain ATB in the process.
Brumal Form should be equipped to the player's shortcuts. When perfected, it can be invaluable, as one of Yuffie's most useful abilities. Given Yuffie's playstyle revolves around quickly building and consuming ATB, using Brumal Form to recover it is important. When Yuffie has used Throw and thus cannot guard, Brumal Form is extremely important as the only way to avoid damage.
Alternatives to Brumal Form as an evasion maneuver when Yuffie does not have an ATB gauge available are her normal dodge roll, or Ninja Bazooka. These are both effective but lack the ability to recover ATB as Brumal Form does. An additional evasive ability for Yuffie is Blindside, which Yuffie can use to retaliate and get out of danger even after being attacked.
Brumal Form can also be used with a devastating combo when Yuffie has the right materia. With 
ATB Assist Materia, and also while standing in Aerith's ATB Ward, she can grant ATB charges to other party members by using Brumal Form repeatedly. Yuffie can use 
ATB Boost Materia and First Strike Materia for her own ATB building to do this, and can do it even more quickly when 
Haste is applied to her.
Etymology[]
Brumal means "winterlike".
"Kumogakure", the technique's Japanese name, means "hiding in the clouds" and may be an allusion to the legendary Sengoku era Iga ninja and leader of the Sanada Ten Braves, Kirigakure Saizō, who—true to his name—was said to be able to hide in mist.
