The Bronze Armor is a heavy armor in Final Fantasy XII that boosts the wearer's Defense by 6 and Strength by 2. It is the second weakest armor and basic equipment. It is metallic for the purposes of the Magnetize debuff present in the boss battles against Vinuskar and Ultima.

Obtain[]

Original[]

In the original PlayStation 2 version, the Bronze Armor is sold for 700 gil in Rabanastre after Barheim Passage, Dalmasca Westersand after the Leviathan but before Treaty-Blade, Barheim Passage before obtaining Treaty-Blade, Nalbina Fortress, Bhujerba, and Dreadnought Leviathan. Basch and Ashe join the party already wearing it. It also rarely drops from the Lv. 4–6 Garchimacera.

Zodiac[]

In the updated Zodiac versions, the Bronze Armor is sold for 500 gil in Barheim Passage, and after escaping the passage also in Rabanastre and Nalbina Fortress. It is found as a treasure in Barheim Passage's Great Eastern Passage (70% chance to appear, 45% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Bronze Armor without the Diamond Armlet equipped), as well as in the Trial Mode Stage 7 with the Diamond Armlet equipped. It still rarely drops from the Lv. 4–6 Garchimacera.

Use[]

The Bronze Armor is the second weakest heavy armor, giving a small amount of Defense at 6 and 2 Strength. It falls off in usefulness fast, and is only nominally better than the weakest armor, Leather Armor. The strength bonuses make heavy armor ideal for frontline fighters, though the HP boost from light armor can be valuable in the beginning of the game, and the first party members the player gets have light armor headgear already equipped.

In the original version, Balthier, Fran, Basch and Ashe start with the license to equip the Bronze Armor, Heavy Armor 1. In all versions, Basch and Ashe join the party wearing Bronze Armors. In the Zodiac versions, Uhlan, Knight, Time Battlemage, and Foebreaker can equip it, and Basch and Ashe can wear it no matter the job. There is no need to buy the helm as the player gets it for free when Basch and Ashe join, and it falls off in usefulness fast; the player can instead save their money for spells and technicks in this early part of the game. If the player gets one early in the Zodiac versions, they can replace Vaan's starting armor with it, but he will need to choose a License Board that has Heavy Armor 1.
