Armor made of bronze.

Description

The Bronze Armor is a beginner heavy body armor in Final Fantasy IX for Steiner and Freya. It teaches Bird Killer, which improves damage against birds and flying enemies. Wearing the Bronze Armor halves Wind damage.

Obtain[]

Steiner joins the party wearing the Bronze Armor. It can be purchased from Dali, though there is no need to do this.

Mechanics[]

The Bronze Armor provides 9 Defense, minorly mitigating damage from physical attacks. It halves Wind damage to the wearer. If the character also wore a Ribbon that absorbs Wind damage, they would absorb half damage from Wind.

Use[]

Steiner wears the Bronze Armor for the beginning of the game, the events in Evil Forest, world map exploration, the Ice Cavern and the boss battles in Dali and the Cargo Ship. He is absent from the player party for a while after this, and when the player takes control of him again, he will have the superior Linen Cuirass available. When Freya joins, she can already use the Linen Cuirass, however, Bird Killer is worth mastering for her as well.

Bird Killer from the Bronze Armor is the best killer ability and Steiner has plenty of time to master it before changing body armor.

The Wind-halving effect goes unused as there are no early game enemies who use Wind. The Zuu in Cleyra's Trunk uses Wind attacks, but Freya will likely want to wear the stronger heavy armor pieces that are available by then.

Beatrix can also wear the Bronze Armor for the brief moment she is playable during the Battle of Alexandria; the player can remove her superior body armor and give her something weak in return as her equipment does not matter for the sequence.
