Broken Mountain, also known as the Sleeping Volcano, is non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV who appears in the Warrior questline. He is the older brother of Curious Gorge.

History[]

Final Fantasy XIV[]

Broken Mountain succumbed to the uncontrollable Rage of the Inner beast, causing almost irreparable damage to his tribe's Warrior reputation across generations. Curious Gorge followed Broken Mountain's trail, leading to a battle at Wineport (Silver Bazaar in version 1.0), where Broken Mountain was defeated. Not long after, Curious Gorge succumbed to the same affliction and the Warrior of Light had to defeat him.

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward[]

Broken Mountain recovered and meticulously studied his people's tomes to discover the secrets of controlling the inner beast. He tried to repair his brother's wounded Warrior spirit, who had been saddled with doubt ever since the events at Wineport.

Together with the Warrior of Light and Curious Gorge, Broken Mountain assisted in defending Limsa Lominsa from the rising Sahagin threat. Rather than wielding an axe, he used scholarly abilities. The victory impressed the Storm Marshal Eynzahr, who encouraged the brothers to train the Maelstrom members in the ways of the Warrior. Their dreams of repairing their tribe's reputation and spreading their ancestor's teachings were realized.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood[]

Due to the reputation gained from the Maelstrom, Broken Mountain and Curious Gorge were challenged by an anonymous band of marauders, a barely disguised Wyrnzoen and his entourage. During the battle, one of the marauders was possessed by her inner beast and easily threw Wyrnzoen, Broenbhar, and even Curious Gorge into the waters of the pier. Broken Mountain recognized that she had been taken over by the inner beast, and with the help of Warrior of Light, stopped her.

Having regained her senses, the marauder introduced herself as Dorgono of the Qerel clan. The inner beast was not a foreign concept to her people, but they lacked the understanding to control it and those influenced by it were exiled. Broken Mountain accepteds Dorgono as a new charge, but feared he would not have the time to supervise the novice warriors of the Maelstrom and take care of Dorgono's training. Dorgono did his training while accompanying Broken Mountain on Maeltrom operations against the Mamool Ja and eventually managed to control his inner beast after an ambush by the bestmen.
