The Brigandine is a mid-ranked light armor in Final Fantasy XII that boosts the wearer's defense by 20 (Zodiac) or 18 (original), and HP by 150.

Obtain[]

Original[]

In the original PlayStation 2 versions, the Brigandine is sold for 2,500 gil in Rabanastre, Jahara, and Mt Bur-Omisace after defeating Judge Bergan.

It is found in a treasure on the Ozmone Plain's The Shred (southeast corner of the part of area that does not have entrance to Henne Mines; 50% chance to appear, 40% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Brigandine without the Diamond Armlet equipped Map 29 Ozmone Plain).

Brigandine is the rare poach from the Diresaur, and it is made in the bazaar set "Matching Reds" by selling three Coeurl Pelts (from Coeurls), two Quality Hides (from various enemies, e.g. Viper), and three Dark Magicites (from various enemies, e.g. Black Chocobo).

Zodiac[]

In the updated Zodiac versions, the Brigandine is sold for 2,500 gil in Eruyt Village and Mt Bur-Omisace. It is found in a treasure in Henne Mines' Phase 1 Dig (75% chance to appear, 60% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Brigandine without the Diamond Armlet equipped), Paramina Rift's Freezing Gorge (70% chance to appear, 35% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Brigandine without the Diamond Armlet equipped), and in Tchita Uplands' Oliphzak Rise (35% chance to appear, 70% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Brigandine without the Diamond Armlet equipped), as well as in the Trial Mode Stage 62 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.

It is still the rare poach from the Diresaur and made in the bazaar set "Matching Reds" with the same items as before.

Use[]

The Brigandine is a mid-ranked light armor, giving 20 or 18 defense depending on version, and 160 HP. It is useful to equip over any inferior equipment the party may have. However, in the original version where everyone can wear any equipment piece, the more expensive heavy armor, Golden Armor, or the mystic armor Traveler's Vestment, may be preferable purchases if the player can stretch their funds to them, as the HP boost from light armor is not usually worth prioritizing over heavy armor that boosts Strength for physical attackers, or mystic armor that boosts Magick Power for spellcasters.

In the Zodiac versions, Machinist, Monk, Archer, and Shikari can equip the Brigandine, and so it is only useful to buy if the player has chosen these License Boards for their party. In The Zodiac Age, after fighting Belias, the player can choose two License Boards per party member, and so more party members can choose from the potentially more useful heavy and mystic armor sets.

Etymology[]

A brigandine is a form of body armor from the Middle Ages. It is a cloth garment, generally canvas or leather, lined with small oblong steel plates riveted to the fabric.
