Extremely durable suit.
Description
The Brave Suit is an endgame light armor piece in Final Fantasy IX for Zidane and Amarant. The Brave Suit teaches Auto-Regen, a which provides a continuous Regen state, passively accumulating health mid-battle, and Restore HP, which restores HP to the character when they survive an enemy's attack when in Near Death. Wearing the Brave Suit provides a small bonus to Spirit upon level up, and it would strengthen the wearer's Fire damage if Zidane and Amarant had any Fire-elemental abilities.
Obtain[]
The Brave Suit is synthesized in Black Mage Village at the end of game with 26,000 gil, a Mythril Vest, and a Mythril Rod. A Mythril Vest can be purchased from Dragon's Gate in Lindblum Castle and a Mythril Rod is purchased from the moogle in Ipsen's Castle.
Mechanics[]
The Brave Suit provides 42 Defense, mitigating damage from physical attacks. The vest gives a +1 bonus to the wearer's Spirit when they level up with it equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Spirit is a generally useful stat to raise for everyone, governing aspects such as HP the character is revived on, the duration of expirable status effects, the frequency Regen and Poison tick, how often the character enters Trance and how many turns they will get while in Trance, among other things.
The Brave Suit has Fire as Elem-Atk property, but the player cannot make much use of this trait as neither Zidane nor Amarant have any Fire abilities. Though Zidane's Dynes have fiery attack animations, they all deal non-elemental physical damage. Amarant can use Return Magic, however, and returning fire spells could be enhanced with the Brave Suit.
Use[]
The Brave Suit is a good light body armor for the endgame, though the Power Vest (Strength +2 level up bonus) and the Dark Gear (Spirit +3 level up bonus) would be better for level grinding and the Ninja Gear would be better for Ozma, Hades, and whenever Vivi uses Doomsday for its Shadow-absorption.
Auto-Regen from the Brave Suit is excellent, though the player may have already mastered it from other equipment by the time the Brave Suit is available to synthesize. Restore HP, meanwhile, is not needed if the character has Auto-Regen.
The guest characters from Tantalus Theater Troupe can also wear the Brave Suit though the player cannot equip them with it in a normal playthrough.
