Gridanian Roots[]
Journal[]
- Opyltyl has spoken to you of the botanists and the role their guild plays in Gridania. They toil to preserve the balance and health of the forest by removing death and decay and trimming back overgrowth. Through their deeds, they also serve the interests of the moogles and conjurers. For your first endeavor, you have been ordered to pay your respects to the forest's elementals. Seek out the botanist Cicely, and have her guide you.
- Troublesome weeds have been growing near Quarrymill, choking the pathways used by the conjurers. The elementals have given their consent to see the grasses cut, and so an official request has been submitted to the Greatloam Growery. Cicely has marked the area in question on your map, and told you to go without her.
- Cicely arrived at Quarrymill just as you dutifully finished clearing the last of the troublesome weeds. She stays only long enough to speak ill of the drudgery and boredom that is life in Gridania before leaving. Afterwards, a moogle confesses to you that Cicely is an extremely talented gardener. Having met a moogle is surely akin to paying your respects to the elementals. Return to the Greatloam Growery and speak to Opyltyl.
The Grass is Always Greener[]
Journal[]
- You have learned that Gridania uses an oil procured from plants to power the lights used throughout the city. The present fuel source is less than ideal, however, and the botanists are collaborating with the alchemists of Ul'dah to discover a plant capable of producing a more potent oil. Opyltyl has asked you to deliver a batch of plants to Frondale's Phrontistery. Speak to Cicely to obtain the specimens.
- Cicely has complained to you again at great lengths of her dislike for life in Gridania. She has a friend in Ul'dah with whom she corresponds by letter, but claims life in the forest is so boring she has nothing with which to fill a page. She demands that you visit a traveling bard who is putting in at the Carline Canopy, and hear some interesting tale from either Ishgard or Limsa Lominsa.
- You are able to find the bard Penelope at the Carline Canopy, who claims to be suffering from a lack of clarity. She has spun so many tales and sung so many songs that it is all a blur in her head. She has agreed to give you your tale if you are able to bring her something to help sort the chaos of her thoughts. Speak with Cicely to see if she has such a something.
- Cicely believes she may have exactly the sort of thing the bard Penelope is looking for. However, she is by no means desirous of parting with it. She offers to lend it to you in exchange for a bowing pine branch and a foul-smelling nut. Gather the items she wants and bring them back to her.
- After handing a bowing pine branch and a foul-smelling nut over to Cicely, she reluctantly parts with her pot of nostalgic ink, an item of Lominsan origin. Show it to Penelope and parley with her for a story.
- Penelope has shared with you an eerie tale of a ghost ship that sails the waters off Limsa Lominsa. Hurry back to Cicely and tell her all about it.
- Cicely has provided you with the plant specimens to be delivered to Frondale's Phrontistery, together with a letter for her dear friend, whom she tells you can be found at Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern. See to business matters first, and take the specimens to the alchemists of the Phrontistery.
- Nogeloix of the Phrontistery graciously accepted the plant specimens which you delivered. He tells you of the limited success the alchemists are having in their endeavors, however, and confesses there is no promise of an alternative superior to Ul'dah's native ceruleum. He suggests you visit Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern and ask the miners to provide you with a sample to take back to Gridania. It sounds like a perfect opportunity to deliver Cicely's letter, as well.
- While speaking to Linette at the Miners' Guild, a Lalafell by the name of Nenekko comes by. It becomes clear that she is Cicely's friend in Ul'dah, and delivery of the letter gives her cause for unbridled elation. As a show of thanks, Linette provides you with a sample of ceruleum, free of charge. Return to the Greatloam Growery with it and news of your visit.
A Moogle Bouquet[]
Journal[]
- Word has reached Opyltyl of an attack on moogles in the forest. Sister Rychyld of the conjurers, who communes with the elementals of the trees on behalf of Greatloam Growery, is looking into the matter and has requested the aid of the Botanists' Guild. Speak with her and offer whatever assistance you can.
- Sister Rychyld greets you, revealing that she has already heard a great deal about you from Cicely. She invites you to meet her near the flower fields to the south of Camp Crimson Bark. Use your map to travel there and find her.
- Sister Rychyld is already waiting for you when you arrive at the flower fields. She tells you that you must collect a number of pearl clover seeds. Bring them to her when you are finished. Not too many, but not too few...
- After gathering the pearl clover seeds, Sister Rychyld instructs you to return to the Greatloam Growery. Speak with Cicely once you arrive.
- Cicely has ordered you to plant the seeds that you have gathered and care for them until they sprout and blossom. But what is the best way to go about growing them? Ask the botanists around the Growery and learn from their experience.
- Opyltyl has shared with you some of the knowledge required in the cultivation of plants. Unfortunately, the optimal fertilizer for this particular plant is yarzon...leavings. Seek out the slumbering yarzons around Humblehearth to collect pellets of yarzon faeces.
- You have gathered the necessary yarzon faeces. Return to the Greatloam Growery and speak once more to Opyltyl.
- You deliver the stinking pellets of yarzon faeces to Opyltyl, who has miraculously nurtured the seeds into budding sprouts! Leave the fertilization of the plants to him, and report your progress to Cicely.
- The Echo teaches you that Cicely was once growing pearls clover blossoms in the hopes of sending one to her friend in Ul'dah. She asks that you retrieve the pearl clover seedlings from Opyltyl and bring them to her.
- You have retrieved the fully bloomed pearl clover seedlings from Opyltyl. Visit Cicely again and show them to her.
- Cicely has marked the place on your map where Sister Rychyld is awaiting your arrival. Deliver the pearl clover seedlings to her as soon as you are able.
- The delivery of the pearl clover seedlings utterly delights a number of moogles who are instantly drawn to them. You learn that the flowers are essential to the moogles' way of life. Return to the Greatloam Growery and report to Cicely.
