The Boomerang is a weapon for Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII. It can first be purchased in Junon, and has stats on-par with weapons for other characters available there. The weapon has four Materia slots, two of which are linked.

Obtained[]

The Boomerang can be purchased from Junon before the player has the Highwind, or from Gongaga, for 1,400 gil. It can also be stolen from Formula, an enemy fought on the world map in the Junon Area. As it can be stolen so close to where it can be purchased, this is the best way to obtain the weapon.

If the player is fighting random encounters in the forest to trigger the battle with the Mystery Ninja, it may be worth trying to steal from every Formula that comes across and the surplus can be sold for gil or thrown with the Throw command for extra damage.

Mechanics[]

As the Boomerang has a base Attack stat bonus of 30, the base damage for physical attacks when the Boomerang is equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Yuffie's current level and "Strength" is her Strength stat. The Boomerang also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 101%, and grants a +7 bonus to Yuffie's Magic stat.

The Boomerang is available very early on for Yuffie, and is her most powerful weapon until the party reaches Cosmo Canyon, when the Pinwheel becomes available. As such, players who wish to use Yuffie should prioritize stealing it at the Junon Area to obtain it for free, and replace Yuffie's starting weapon straight away.

The weapon has four Materia slots, two of which are linked. Yuffie has average stats across the board, meaning she can be viably built towards physical or magic damage with no preference for either. As such, the slots can either be used for a variety of mixes of Materia, with Magic Materia and Summon Materia preferable for magic damage, and Command Materia and Independent Materia being used either to complement her magic damage or be gear her towards physical damage.

The Boomerang can be replaced upon acquiring the Pinwheel or a more powerful weapon. If the player recruits Yuffie later in the game, a better weapon may already be available.

Etymology[]

A boomerang is a thrown tool, typically constructed as a flat aerofoil, designed to spin about an axis perpendicular to the direction of its flight. A returning boomerang is designed to return to the thrower. Boomerangs have been historically used for hunting, as well as a sport and entertainment.
