Bomb is a Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Bomb is the thirty-seventh card in the inventory and the fourth Level 4 card.
Being a Level 4 card, the card values on the Bomb are not particularly strong, but its value placements may be useful for games that use Same and/or Plus. It is a fire-elemental card, which comes into effect when the Elemental rule is in play. The player is likely to first encounter the Elemental rule halfway into the game at Fishermans Horizon unless they pay a lot of money to the Queen of Cards prior to that. Placing the Bomb on a tile with the matching flame symbol boosts the card's stats by +1. The increased values do not count toward Same/Plus triggering, but do count toward Combo mechanics.
Obtain[]
The Bomb monster has a 3.5% chance to drop the card. Using the Card command on a Bomb has a 93.7% chance to procure a Bomb card when it succeeds.
Any AI Triple Triad player who uses Level 4 cards has a chance of using Bomb in a play, from where the player can win it in a card match.
Card Mod[]
A Bomb card refines into a Bomb Fragment with Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. It turns into Fira spells with Ifrit's F Mag-RF, meaning the player can get the spell early if they collect Bomb cards from Triple Triad or from carding the enemy inside the Fire Cavern. However, it may be better to save the cards or fragments until the player gets Eden and its GFAbl Med-RF ability as 20 Bomb Fragments turn into Bomb Spirit, which teaches Kamikaze or turns into 100 Firagas. Bomb Fragments can also be made into Fire Ammo (Ammo-RF) for Irvine's Shot and are needed to craft two weapons, Flail and Ulysses. All in all, collecting Bomb cards is not a priority over other offerings.
Physical version[]
In 1999, following the release of Final Fantasy VIII in Japan, Bandai produced a full set of collectible Triple Triad cards in Final Fantasy VIII Carddass Masters Perfect Visuals. The set was made up of the 110 cards as seen in the game along with 72 artwork cards and a collector's edition playing mat. The cards have a blue side and a red side. The cards have become a rare collector's item.
