Uses "Bolt2" on all opponents

Description

Bolt Plume is a battle item item in Final Fantasy VII that casts Bolt2 on all enemies. It is the Lightning-elemental counterpart to the Fire Fang and Antarctic Wind. Bolt Plume is the Final Fantasy VII version of the recurring item Zeus's Wrath.

Obtained[]

Drop Garuda, Needle Kiss, Thunderbird
Steal Thunderbird

Mechanics[]

Unlike when casting the spell Bolt2, using the Bolt Plume does not take the user's stats into account in determining damage. The final damage is calculated as :

The damage is then modified as per the enemy's resistance to Lightning-elemental damage; i.e. double if the enemy is weak to Lightning, half of they resist, 0 if they nullify Lightning, or healing if they absorb Lightning.

Battle items bypass a target's Reflect status.

Use[]

Bolt Plume is a mediocre item, as at the point where it can be obtained, the player should have access to stronger abilities that deal far more damage. In addition, the Swift Bolt is a direct upgrade to the Bolt Plume and can be easily amassed in quantities without the need for fighting enemies. It may see some usage in the Battle Square for when the player's spells are locked/weapon is broken, but otherwise, even in challenge runs, it is not a valuable item. Bolt Plume may have some use during "Homecoming of a Miserable Daughter" quest when the player's Materia are inaccessible, as the enemies that yield is are available at this time, though there is no point using Bolt Plumes against the Thunderbirds themselves.
