Lightning element attack

Description

Bolt2 is an attack magic spell in Final Fantasy VII. It is granted by the Lightning Materia at level two, and is the second-tier lightning-elemental spell above Bolt and below Bolt3.

In the 1996 demo release, Bolt2 is available to Cloud from the start, and only costs 8 MP.

Use[]

Bolt2 can be used by characters with the Lightning Materia at level 2. If obtained early on, it can deal considerable damage when compared with most other attacks available to the player at this stage, outside of Limits. It also has a high MP cost early on, meaning it is best to save it against tougher enemies or bosses, while Bolt is used as the primary damaging spell. As a Lightning-elemental spell, it is best against enemies weak to Lightning, such as mechanical enemies like Shinra robots.

Bolt2 can be amplified by pairing the Lightning Materia with Support Materia. The All Materia allows it to hit all enemies, while MP Turbo enhances its damage while also increasing its MP cost. If the player has multiple Lightning Materia linked to different Support Materia, they can get multiple effects for a single casting of Bolt spells.

As the party's max MP increases, Bolt2 can be used much more frequently, especially if paired with MP Absorb, meaning it replaces the role of the basic Bolt spell. As characters improve further, it itself is overtaken by Bolt3, which remains the most powerful Lightning spell thereafter. The E.Skill Trine is superior to Bolt2, as it is more powerful, costs less MP, and natively targets all enemies.

Bolt2 can be used by the enemies SOLDIER:3rd, Lost Number in its base and magical forms, Yang, Garuda, Grimguard in its Defense form, and Unknown 3. It can also Turks:Rude, during the Rocket Town and Sunken Gelnika encounters.
