Blood Soul is an enemy in Final Fantasy VIII commonly found on the Galbadian continent. It is a small flying undead enemy that inflicts the party with Zombie and then uses curative spells on them to deal damage.
As an undead enemy, Blood Soul takes half damage from physical attacks, is weak to Fire and Holy, is immune to Death and Doom and The End, and dies instantly from resurrecting abilities and items.
Blood Soul is wilier at higher levels, as it casts Zombie on a character, then unleashes curative moves on them. This monster usually teams up with Belhelmel and uses status affliction attacks (Silence, Confuse, Sleep, etc).
The enemy's name in Japan is not "Blood Soul" (which would be written ブラッド (buraddo?)), but instead uses the slightly different ブラット (buratto?). This could be a typographical error, but it could also apply to "brat", which suits its small size. The common Japanese equivalent to the English "brat" is gaki (餓鬼?), which literally means "hungry ghost/devil". The Final Fantasy VIII Ultimania makes an error in its Balamb Garden underground monster list, where it uses ブラッド (buraddo?, lit. blood).
[view·edit·purge]The soul, in many religious, philosophical, psychological, and mythological traditions, is the incorporeal and, in many conceptions, immortal essence of a person, living thing, or object.
