Use[]

Blizzard deals light damage to all nearby enemies. It is the first area of effect (AoE) attack Black Mages gain access to. Blizzard II grants and maintains Umbral Ice, which significantly increases MP regeneration after expending it in the Astral Fire phase. However, Blizzard II's potency is low even for an AoE action, and it will only outdamage Blizzard Blizzard when hitting 4 or more enemies rather than the 3 enemies standard for other AoE actions. Blizzard II also requires the user to move into the middle of the action within melee range of opponents, putting them at risk of opposing close range AoE attacks.

While under the effect of Astral Fire, Blizzard II will remove all stacks of that effect instead of applying Umbral Ice, thus requiring two casts to enter Umbral Ice. Transpose Transpose can be used to more quickly switch phases.

Once Freeze Freeze becomes available it mostly replaces Blizzard II and Transpose, as it can bring the Black Mage to Umbral Ice III in a single cast. Freeze also has better DPS and MP efficiency than Blizzard II, and can be used from a safe distance, leaving Blizzard II with no real niche.
