Use[]

Blizzard III deals moderate damage to a single target while instantly putting the Black Mage at three stacks of Umbral Ice. In addition, it removes Astral Fire in the same cast. This eliminates the need to ramp up Umbral Ice with Blizzard Blizzard and Transpose Transpose, immediately putting the Black Mage at its highest MP regeneration.

When Blizzard III is acquired the Umbral Ice phase of a Black Mage's rotation becomes much shorter, owing to Umbral Ice III's extreme MP regeneration. Only two ticks of Umbral Ice III are needed to achieve maximum MP, and thus after casting Blizzard III only two spells are typically needed before reentering Astral Fire. This time should be used to refresh the Black Mage's damage over time effects, with the extra spell being used for either Blizzard or Blizzard IV Blizzard IV depending on level. Blizzard III itself should not be used again, as it has poor DPS compared to these spells.

While Blizzard III has a cast time longer than the global cooldown (GCD), instant cast effects such as Swiftcast Swiftcast and Triplecast Triplecast should instead be used with higher damage Fire spells.
