Ice magic damage/one enemy

Description

Blizzard is an attack magic spell in Final Fantasy VIII. It is the basic Ice-elemental spell below Blizzara and Blizzaga, allowing it to be junctioned to resist or deal Ice damage in battle, or cast as a spell.

When Magic Booster is used in the 2013 PC re-release, the player's inventory gains 100 Blizzard spells, among other basic spells.

Obtained[]

Many enemies have the Blizzard spell available to draw (drawing from enemies will always succeed), and it can be drawn from several locations. At the beginning of the game the player can draw it from the Glacial Eyes around the Balamb Region for use against Ifrit and T-Rexaur. The Guardian Force Shiva gives the ability to create Ice magic via refining.

Stats[]

Use[]

Blizzard has a spell power of 18 when cast, meaning its damage is calculated as:

[1]

It is cast as a spell in the Magic command, Selphie's Slot Limit Break, or Rinoa's Angel Wing if she has it in her inventory.

Casting Blizzard in battle increases compatibility with Shiva by 1, but lowers compatibility with Ifrit by 0.8 and with Eden by 0.2.

Prior to obtaining Blizzara and Blizzaga, Blizzard is a useful spell to junction against enemies weak to Ice, or to resist against enemies with Ice attacks. Early on, it is also useful for junctioning to boost Strength and deal more damage. Later, Blizzard is best refined into Blizzara using Mid Mag-RF, as it is quickly outclassed.

The only enemy that uses this spell against the player party is Jelleye. It can be reflected, but is not a threat.

Behind the scenes[]

Squall uses magic inside from FFVIII

Squall gets caught breaking school rules.

After the encounter with NORG, the player can wander around Balamb Garden, and if Rinoa was in Squall's team, she asks him for a tour. Outside the 2F classroom, a cadet asks Squall to show magic, and if the player complies, Squall casts a Blizzard spell indoors and gets reprimanded by Instructor Aki, who deducts a SeeD rank from him.
