Before my blade, you are nothing.Blaz using Haten Eijinsen
Blaz Azetina, also known as Blaz the Merciful, is a non-player character from Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers. He is part of the newly formed Gunnhildr's Blades, and fights with the Bozjan Resistance.
Blaz is a samurai, and direct descendant of the founders of the Verdant Path, an illustrious martial school famous for teaching everything from unarmed combat to swordplay to spear techniques. The school forbid its disciples from engaging in uprisings, adhering to the philosophy that martial perfection was to serve the enlightenment of the soul─not sharpen tools for base conflict. When insurrection broke out in Bozja, however, there were students whose hatred for the Garlean Empire overwhelmed their stoic sense of obedience. Those who joined the fight were expelled, and so did the Verdant Path avoid confrontation with Imperial forces. Despite being the youngest child of the school's founding family, Blaz's father also chose to rebel against his teachings and lend his blade to the Bozjan cause. The uprising was crushed and Blaz's father took shelter in Doma, where he wed and was blessed with a son.
Blaz, following in his sire's martial footsteps, entered a prestigious samurai school, and mastered the katana at a young age. Some years later, when Hien returned from exile to lead his nation in revolution, the eager Hrothgar seized the opportunity to repay his family's debt to Doma. Once Doma's liberation was secured, Blaz made ready to strike out on his own. After hearing rumors of the Eastern alliance and the new uprising in Bozja, he knew his road must lead to his father's homeland. The Verdant Path was experiencing upheaval of its own at this time, with the newly appointed schoolmaster championing the cause of rebuilding the Bozja of old. Blaz was welcomed with open arms, and even offered a position to teach the arts of the samurai. He declined the honor. Though his father had since passed on, Blaz was determined to carry on his legacy.
Once he joined the Verdant Path, he became close to Velibor, his cousin he just met. During their training days, Blaz and Velibor were ever on the lookout for a third comrade to complete the technique of "Three as One". Their incomparable skill, however, meant that none of their fellows could ever measure up to them in an even contest. Only Aggie refused to admit defeat. Blaz and Velibor loved her as a little sister, and it was for this very reason they were hesitant to add her to their ranks. Aggie She earned the rank of master, and trained until she was able to claim one of every three matches she fought against the cousins. Blaz and Velibor were compelled to recognize her achievements, and at last accepted her as their third. Their decision was swayed not by Aggie’s desire to fight, but by their need to protect her if she insisted she must. They swore to be her shields, come what may.
The trio joined the Resistance and ranks of Gunnhildr's Blades. Blaz fought alongside other Gunnhildr’s Blades members in Bozjan Southern Front and participates in Bajsaljen’s raid on Castrum Lacus Litore. Before they can celebrate their capture of the Castrum, Misija appears with a captive Mikoto. Holding the scholar hostage, she forces the Warrior of Light to use their Echo to delve into the memories held within the relic Save the Queen. As Bajsaljen prepares the Blades to surprise her, Misija summons the primal Gunnhildr and commands her to temper the Gunnhildr’s Blades on the spot, including Blaz. The Gunnhildr’s Blades followed Misija's commands and killed their own Bozjan Resistance comrades. Eventually Save the Queen's aether distorts the bodies of Aggie, Blaz and Velibor and merged them into a single abominable entity that the Warrior of Light defeats in Delubrum Reginae.
Blaz is a Hrothgar hailing from the lost tribe. He has dark blue skin and gray hair in a top knot. He wears light green Bozjan resistance gear and wields the Hoshikiri blade in battle.
Blaz the Merciful is an allied npc who helps with several Skirmishes in The Bozjan Southern Front. He uses typical Samurai abilities and has his own unique ability called Haten Eijinsen that is a large conal attack. Later, he is fought as a boss called Trinity Seeker in Delubrum Reginae.
