Use[]

Blade Burst is a unique ability for Cloud in that it deals ranged magic damage with no MP cost, which hits in a narrow fan. Blade Burst's biggest strength is its large area-of-effect and above average power, allowing Cloud to often attack without needing to run toward his enemies first.

As the attack is non-elemental, there is no need to worry about elemental resistances. However, enemies with magic resistance or a high magic defense can greatly reduce its effectiveness. Against enemies who resist physical damage, Blade Burst can be an excellent alternative to casting spells to save MP and deal damage with little fear of missing. Against single targets at longer range, it is not a full substitute for spellcasting as it still has limited range whereas spells do not.

Blade Burst takes advantage of Cloud's magical damage unlike his other abilities, such as Braver or Triple Slash. Building Cloud towards high Magic Attack Magic Attack benefits Blade Burst, and a Magic Up Materia Magic Up Materia can be a great boost.

Equipping Cloud with Mythril Saber Mythril Saber can transform Blade Burst into one of his most powerful abilities, as it not only favors high magic attack, but also has strong magic-oriented passives.
