Appearances[]

Final Fantasy[]

CC7blckwdw

The Black Widow appears as a boss during "Machines Gone Haywire," attacking in the same fashion as its predecessors with Anti-AP Field, Anti-MP Field, Super EM Field, and the very powerful Shinra Type-100 Cannon. It is slow like its counterparts, and thus can easily be dealt with by attacking from behind and baiting its fields, as it prefers using them over actually damaging HP.

Final Fantasy VIII[]

FF8 X-ATM092

The X-ATM092, codename Black Widow, appears as a boss in Dollet during the SeeD field exam. It is a massive spider-like robot activated by Biggs to pursue the party as they leave the communications tower. The party must attack it until it collapses and enters "self-repair mode", at which point it is advised to take this opportunity to flee, as it cannot be defeated at this point.

After the initial escape, the X-ATM092 will chase the party; it is possible, albeit difficult, to avoid the encounters. If it catches up with the party, they are forced to fight it again. During these battles the X-ATM092 can be defeated and doing so will earn the party 100 points on their field exam, but it is a difficult encounter and the party is on a timer to evacuate.

Final Fantasy XVI[]

The Black Widow appears as an enemy encountered in the Kingsfall.

Final Fantasy Dimensions[]

FFD Black Widow

The Black Widow appears as an enemy encountered in the underground levels of Yggdrasil.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]

The Black Widow appears as an enemy encountered in the Dalnakya Cavern, Phantom Forest, Wolfsfang Peak, Wind Heights East, Gronoa Shrine Interior, Lordless Castle, Vortex, and Colosseum. It can also be encountered during the "A Promise Beyond Time," "Time for Revenge," "Memories from the Battlefield," "Guardian of the Order," "The White Sage and the Magic Cane," and "The Phantom Blueprint" events.

The X-ATM092 appears as a boss encountered in the Electric Tower, fielded as a weapon by the Zoldaad Empire where it is known as the "Black Widow." It is set after the party by one of the defeated Zoldaad troops atop the tower as they try to leave, self-repairing after each defeat and chasing the party relentlessly, mirroring its Final Fantasy VIII counterpart. It isn't defeated until Lid manages to identify and destroy its recovery system. The X-ATM092 also appears during the Final Fantasy VIII event "Dollet - Exploration."

Mobius Final Fantasy[]

The X-ATM092 from Final Fantasy VIII appears as an earth-elemental Warrior card. It grants the Ray-Bomb ability.

Etymology[]

Latrodectus is a genus of spider in the family Theridiidae, many of which are commonly known as widow spiders. Individual species vary widely in size, but in most cases the females are dark and identifiable by reddish hourglass markings on the abdomen. The spiders' venomous bite is considered particularly dangerous because of the neurotoxin latrotoxin, which causes the condition latrodectism, both named for the genus. The female black widow has unusually large venom glands and her bite is particularly harmful to humans.
