The Black Warlock, also known as the DarkWizard, is a deadly, yet valuable, enemy in Final Fantasy V.

Battle[]
Often encountered singularly in tandem with other monsters on the lower floors of Castle Exdeath, the Black Warlock begins to appear in pairs as the party ascends to the upper levels. If one is lucky, Black Warlocks will consign themselves to physical hits and the Drain spell. They can use powerful offensive magic, such as Break, Death, Banish, Slowga, Stop, and Confuse.
Black Warlocks are the only available source of the Power Staff.
Strategy[]
As unprepared parties can be decimated quickly, it is advisable to kill Black Warlocks before moving on to other monsters. Level 3 Flare and Level 2 Old work against them. As they are humanoid, Man-Eater does increased damage against them. Many of their spells can be reflected, so Carbuncle could come in handy. They are vulnerable to petrify, and so Break spell and Break Blade work.
