Black Materia: Final Fantasy VII is a rap album by Random and Lost Perception telling the story of Final Fantasy VII and using remixed selections from the game's soundtrack as instrumental backing. Half of the words of the opening track are lifted directly from Marlene's prologue in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, re-recorded by Marlos Hill. Videogame-themes-with-lyrics performer brentalfloss, Marlos Hill, Storyville & the Thoughtcriminals, The Ranger, Dale Chase, MC Pennywise, Devastate, Phil Harmonic, Ilyas, and Maja appear as guest performers.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Materia means "matter" or "substance" in Latin, Spanish and Italian; it also means "subject" in Italian and Spanish, and is the ascendant of Portuguese "Matéria".

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • After the "One-Winged Angel" section of the "One Winged Angel" track (but before the bonus tracks), the "Theme of Elfe" from Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII- is used as Random speaks a verse describing the ending of Final Fantasy VII.
  • A remix album was released with 16 tracks featuring remixes and new versions of existing tracks, and also a number of new tracks. The new tracks are Valentine, Ninja Girl, Cait Sith, and Escape From Shinra Tower (uses Final Fantasy VIII boss theme).
