Black Mage appears as a playable character in Final Fantasy Record Keeper. It is a Core class, unassociated with any specific title.

Overview[]

As with all Core characters, the Black Mage is a subpar character, with poor stats, limited Soul Breaks, and limited versatility. It has the distinction of being one of two characters the player will win from their first dungeon, the other being the White Mage. The Black Mage has a rival in the Magus, another Core class able to use Black Magic. The Black Mage has inferior stats than the Magus in every field, and the Magus is able to use Rank 5 Black Magic, while the Black Mage is limited to Rank 4. This makes the Magus universally superior to the Black Mage in every way, and once the player acquires the Magus (or, really, any mage with Rank 5 Black Magic), they will have no further use for the Black Mage. However, later in the game it is worth leveling the Black Mage up to acquire its Record Materia, which are quite useful.
