Black Mage sprite (NES).

Black Mages are casters who specialize in offensive magic. Despite their appearance, they can take a few hits, too.

In-game description

The bearer of this certificate is impeccably well versed in dark magic and is deemed worthy of the title of Master Black Mage.

Mastery certificate description

Template:See Also The Black Mage (黒魔道師, Kuromadoushi?) is a job class in Final Fantasy III gained from the Wind Crystal. In the opening FMV of the 3D remake, Arc is depicted as a Black Mage. Black Mages excel in attacking enemies with offensive Black Magic. They wield a variety of spells and can attack multiple targets at once. They possess low Attack power and Defense. They can wield bows and rods.

Abilities

Famicom version

Like every other Final Fantasy, the Black Mage specializes in offensive elemental spells as well as status ailment spells. Once the Magus (Warlock) job is unlocked, this job loses its usefulness.
