The Black Flan (ブラックプリン, Burakkupurin?, lit. Black Pudding), also known as the Black Pudding, Flan Azabache, Dark Flan, Pudding, or SLIME, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series. It first appeared in the original Final Fantasy, inspired by the "Black Pudding" ooze monster from Dungeons & Dragons, and is typically among the strongest variants of the Flan.

The Black Flan, also known as SLIME or Dark Flan, appears as an enemy encountered in the Flying Fortress and Chaos Shrine. It has high physical defense and resistance against Lightning and Ice attacks, and can inflict Poison with its basic attacks. It is weak to fire attacks.
Final Fantasy II[]
The Black Flan, also known as the Dark Flan, appears an enemy encountered in Mysidia, the Cave of Mysidia, and Mysidia Tower. It is resistant to all attacks and its only weakness is fire. Its physical attacks can inflict Poison.
Final Fantasy III[]
The Black Flan appears an enemy encountered in the sewers of Amur and in the forest around the area. It has the highest strength of any enemy in the area. It is weak to fire attacks.
Final Fantasy IV[]
The Black Flan, also known as the Pudding, appears as an enemy encountered on the Red Moon. It has a high amount of HP and is one of the tougher flan types in the area, but is susceptible to many status effects.
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]
The Black Flan returns as an enemy encountered in the lunar overworld and the Lunarian Challenge Dungeon. It is identical to the enemy in Final Fantasy IV.
Final Fantasy IV -Interlude-[]
The Black Flan returns an enemy encountered in the Tower of Babil and the Sealed Cave. It is identical to the enemy in Final Fantasy IV. It can drop the rare item, Artemis Arrows.
Final Fantasy X-2[]
The Flan Azabache appears as an enemy encountered in the Ruin Depths and Via Infinito. It can use several powerful magic abilities, including -ga level spells of all elements.

Eytmology[]
The word Flan refers to an open pastry or sponge cake containing a sweet or savory filling. A typical flan of this sort is round, with shortcrust pastry, usually coated with sweet syrup. It is similar to a custard tart or a South African melktert.
The black pudding is an ooze creature resembling bubbling thick black goo from the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.
