The Bishop (ビショップ, Bishoppu?), also known as Elder, is a recurring Job class from Ivalice.

Appearances

Final Fantasy Tactics

An elder of the Church who never rests in his mission to spread the teachings of the gods to the common people.

Simon's unique Job Class in Final Fantasy Tactics. His job was known as Bishop in the PS1 release, but was changed to Elder for the Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions for the PSP version. This job is a story-related job used in cutscenes, and as such it serves no purpose in battle as there are no skillsets associated with the job. It possesses no Abilities, no Reaction Abilities, no Support Abilities, and no Movement Abilities. Curious to say, the developers did take time to give it a job description.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Bishop is exclusive to the Bangaa race and it's their only magic-based Job. Bishops learn a variety of offensive and defensive magic, so one could say they are a variant of the Red Mage job. Due to their religious namesake, Bishops are the only Job class in their respective games that can cast the spell Holy. They also have access to Magic Counter and Half MP.

To unlock Bishops, the player will always need to master two White Monk action abilities. Bishops use Prayer on the battlefield, and equip Staves, Robes, Light Armor and Hats.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift

Bishops now use Intercession skills on the battlefield, but still equip Staves, Robes, Light Armor and Hats.

Etymology

A bishop is an ordained or consecrated member of the Christian clergy who is generally entrusted with a position of authority and oversight.
