The player must have spoken to the "Huntmaster" in Phon Coast and defeated Thalassinon to start of the Rare Game quest. Biding Mantis has four spawn points in the southern portion of the Needlebrake area of the Golmore Jungle when the game clock is between 30 and 59 minutes.

Battle[]

Biding Mantis can be used to test the party's strength. If it is lured to other enemies, it will cannibalize them, growing stronger. Once at a very high level it can deal 9,999 damage to a character with a single strike, and it attacks fast. Physical attacks become useless on high levels, so the player can use magick and Quickenings.

Etymology[]

Mantises is an order of insects that contains over 2,400 species and about 430 genera in 15 families worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. Most are in the family Mantidae. A common name, often applied to any species in the order, is "praying mantis" due to the typical "prayer-like" posture with folded fore-limbs, although the eggcorn "preying mantis" is sometimes used in reference to their predatory habits. In Europe and other regions, however, the name "praying mantis" refers to only a single species, Mantis religiosa.
