Berserker Bracers is an accessory in the Zodiac versions of Final Fantasy XII that gives the wearer an automatic Berserk effect. Berserk is a useful buff as it boosts both attack power (1.5x) and ATB speed (2x), and stacks with Bravery and Haste. The berserker is also immune to Confuse. The downside is that the player cannot control the character; they will simply attack the nearest enemy.

Obtained[]

Berserker Bracers is not sold in shops, but sells for 400 gil. The bracers are found in a treasure in Dalmasca Estersand's Broken Sands, in Pharos - First Ascent's They Who Thirst Not, and in Subterra Umbra - South. They are also a treasure in the Trial Mode stages 64 and 75 with the Diamond Armlet equipped, and they can be rarely stolen from the Werewolf in Trial Mode Stage 5.

It is a good idea to collect the bracers from the Broken Sands area in the Estersand early on, before Bacchus's Wine and the Berserk spell are readily available. The treasure for the bracers is near the northern exit, on the raised section toward the south.

Use[]

Having one berserked party member in a DPS role works well as the player can still manually control the other two, and potentially buff the berserker further with Bravery, Haste, and perhaps Protect, Shell, Regen, and Bubble, or have another party member with Lure draw the enemies' enmity. Berserker Bracers may be good for jobs that focus on pure attacking, such as Foebreaker, or any strong character the player has prepared for a DPS role.

The player could also set a gambit with Self→Bacchus's Wine or Character name→Berserk to use the accessory slot for something else and still get the benefits of Berserk. However, with the Berserker Bracers the player can directly control the effect; the menu is available at any time, so the player can remove the bracers when they want to control the character.

Having a berserked character for long battles, like Yiazmat, helps speed up the process, and using the Berserker Bracers to achieve this allows the player the chance to still take control of them on a whim. However, dealing combos is especially beneficial in long battles, and so the player may prefer the Genji Gloves, or the Germinas Boots instead.

Etymology[]

Berserker is a recurring job in the Final Fantasy series. Berserker was originally a term for Norse warriors who fought with uncontrollable rage and reckless disregard for their own lives. The term itself is typically translated as "bear's skin" in reference to the animal skins Vikings would wear into battle. Theories about what causes berserkergang, the fury Berserkers go into, include possession by an animal spirit, drunken rage, and ritualistic dancing. Berserkers are often depicted in art as men with crazed eyes biting their shields in anticipation of battle.
